The Perfect Cup
The Perfect Cup
Commissioner : Create Arts Development Ltd
The Perfect Cup was a community-based project, part of North Yorkshire Open Studios 2011. Through a series of drop-in sessions held at Filey and Hunmanby Libraries, together with group-led workshops, members of the public were invited to design and make their 'perfect teacup' from recycled materials. This was an inter-generational, mixed ability project involving a wide range of participants. The teacups and drawings of teacups (over two hundred of each) were exhibited at Woodend Gallery in Scarborough. |
Proggy Mat Workshop
Proggy Mat Workshop
Commissioner : The Pannett Art Gallery, Whitby
The Proggy Mat Workshop was held as a day-long, drop-in session at the Pannett Art Gallery in Whitby, where visitors of all ages had a go at the technique of making a 'proggy mat' - a type of rug made from recycled cloth. For some of the older participants the activity evoked childhood memories of this traditional craft taking place in their own homes or communities. |
Confection Perfection
Confection Perfection
Commissioner : Create Arts Development Ltd
Confection Perfection was a rag rug demonstration and drop-in workshop, commissioned by CREATE Arts Development Agency as part of North Yorkshire Open Studios 2012. The designs of the rugs were inspired by the colours and shapes of traditional sweets. |
One Point Hub
One Point Hub
Commissioner : Investing in Children
The One Point Hub in Peterlee is a venue for the holistic support of young people and their families. Investing in Children commissioned young people from across County Durham to make artworks for the meeting rooms at The Hub. Each room is named after a different colour, and I worked with members of Peterlee and Horden youth centres to make constructed reliefs and paintings for the Orange and Yellow Rooms. |
The Object Project
The Object Project
The Object Project was a community-based project on which I worked with co-artist Lin Holland and a group of residents from the West Everton area of Liverpool. Its aim was to build a dialogue between artists and residents wherein we collectively explored how objects become meaningful in the lives of their owners, and what role, if any, contemporary art might have in domestic spaces.
In response to the residents' own treasured objects, together with their provenance and current context, we made seventeen new artworks (one for each participant/home) including sculptures, drawings, installed and participatory works, and film. |
